Thom & Alison's Cake - the Finished Product

Photobucket

After I stack the cakes, I hammer a long dowel rod down the center to keep the cake from falling over.

Photobucket

This is a beaded boarder to cover the seams where the cakes come together.

Photobucket

The branches I made out of fondant and tacked into place with gum-glue and toothpicks.

The finished cake! Congratulations Thom and Alison!

Thom & Alison's Wedding Cake - Before

Since the site is now up and running, I figured I'd give you a sneak peak on how I put my cakes together. Here is for our friends Thom and Alison's wedding on 05/15/10:

Photobucket

This is the first layer of white cake. The flowers I made a few days in advance they still need the sparkles at this point...

Photobucket

Next step is to put the dark chocolate icing on top for the filling of the cakes.

Photobucket

I have added the top layer of white cake. Think of it as a giant reverse oreo cakester!

Photobucket

Now to cover the cakes in vanilla butter cream icing.

Photobucket

These are the cakes covered in fondant.

Photobucket

Here I have inserted the dowel rods to prepare the cakes for stacked construction.

You are now up to date on Thom and Alison's wedding cake. After they get married, we will head over to the reception hall to put the cake together. I will have pictures up of the completed cake on Sunday!

Wedding Cake 04/25/10

I am so happy with the way this wedding cake turned out!

These gumpaste roses take about 2 hours to make 12 and I needed a total of 75, so I enlisted the help of Jamie. Thanks, Jamie!

Everything except the bow is edible.

Even the grass. Who knew they made edible Easter grass?

Guitar Cake

Photobucket

This is a guitar and stack of records cake for a little girl's birthday party. That is why the guitar is purple.

Photobucket

This is a side view. It is a carved cake that I did free hand. There is a cake pan that is available but it looks more like a ukulele than a guitar.

Mini-Wedding Cake

Photobucket

This adorable little wedding cake was for a co-worker. It was only for 25 people. All she told me was that she had roses and calla lilies in her bouquet and her maid-of-honor was wearing purple. I got to pick the design which never happens!

Photobucket

This is a close-up of the flowers. I think they turned out really well!

Castle Birthday Cake

Photobucket

I finally had a chance to make a better castle cake! This was for my god daughter's 8th birthday!

Christmas Cakes

Photobucket

I made this Christmas Bear for a demo at Michaels.

Photobucket

Bear Butt!

Photobucket

This Christmas ornament cake was for my in-laws on Christmas eve. The hook I made for it broke on the car ride :(

L.A.M.B. Birthday Cake

Photobucket

This is a birthday cake for my boss' girlfriends birthday. She loves really crazy high heels!

Photobucket

I made the shoe boxes and heels out of gum paste so they are hard as a rock. The heels are small replicas of a pair that she owns.

My boss ordered this cake for his wife's birthday. She is very attached to their black Labrador and he wanted a cake with the lab on it!

Photobucket

Paw prints on the side!

Photobucket

Back of puppy.

Photobucket

I hand sculpted the Dog and his hat and birthday bowl out of fondant. To my surprise it didn't take very long!

Coach Bag Cake

Photobucket

My first outside order for a "pink on pink coach purse cake!" I am so happy with how it turned out!

Photobucket

With baking and clean up it took me just a little over 13 hours.
